The VASYLI + McPoil tissue stress relief prefabricated foot orthotic is the result of a collaboration between Phillip Vasyli and Prof. Thomas G. McPoil, PhD, PT, ATC.
In 1995, together with Gary Hunt, Tom introduced the concept of load deformation curve, which became the basis of a tissue stress model.
The VASYLI + McPoil orthotic is based on a dual-density construction designed to allow for normal foot pronation but to prevent over pronation.
Ideal for conditions of hypermobility or Achilles stress resulting from traumatic supination (sports injuries), the VASYLI + McPoil provides relief and enhances recovery.
Tom has utilized this construction during decades of practice, treating a wide range of lower-limb biomechanical disorders in both athletes and non-athletes.
VASYLI’s expertise in orthotic design and manufacturing enabled Tom’s successful in-house product to become available to practitioners around the world.

In certain circumstances, the patient may need the addition of a heel lift to reduce stress on the Achilles tendon or lower leg structures, or to address equinus conditions, for example.
In the case of an anatomical limb-length discrepancy, a heel lift may be applied under the device on the short side.
These lifts are placed at the back and center of the device, extending forward until finishing under the tarsal area.
They are available in thicknesses of 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm in small, medium, and large.
A combination of these lifts can be used to obtain higher thicknesses.

You can remove proximal and distal plugs individually or together, as needed, making treatment of 1st ray function easier.
To accommodate variations in the length of a patient’s foot and toes, you can remove the plugs when fitting the orthotic, ensuring the head of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ) coincides with the removed plug.
In cases where maximum effect is required, such as with structural hallux limitus (SHL), you can remove both plugs offering a larger path of least resistance to the joint.
This orthotic is also heat moldable, allowing personalization of rear foot control.
